Hi-yo, hi-yo

My authentic and normal greeting in nearly all online spaces is "hi-yo, hi-yo." It's  a greeting that makes me smile and sets me at ease. It means I see you as a friend and I hope you smile. So hi-yo, hi-yo and welcome.

My Story

When it comes to my story as a garment-maker, I must tell you upfront: It is not compelling. There is no viral moment or movement. Nothing extraordinary or novel.

My story is a simple story that others can echo is true for them. I liked a thing. I practiced that thing. Others liked how I executed said thing. And now, I am offering that thing to everyone.

That's the simple story. The story beneath that story is nothing short of a God story. There was no way I could have known what seed was being planted when I bought an old sewing machine from the thrift story in my early teens. I could not have known that dancing for the Lord would bring me out of the despair and heartache and sense of failure that surrounded me when I went through my divorce. And if I could not know those things, I certainly never foresaw my passions meeting.

In 2011, as part of Greater Pentecostal Temple's God's Glory Dance Ministry, the first MishundaKay was created. One-of-a-kind pieces that I did not duplicate for anyone... mostly, because I only sewed for a small number of people. Their faith in me was the encouragement I needed to poke my head out of my creativity shell. 13 years later, the same people who encouraged me then have inspired me now to take the leap and launch MishundaKay as a line to the public.

You know the saying that if you can do it on your own, your dream is not big enough? Well, welcome to my big dream. My water-walking moment in God that the talent he has given me will bless others and fulfill purpose in my life.
